Section the Superconference is
a mature, long-standing program
with a very large, loyal following.
The prgram annually combines
the most relevant topics and some
of the best speakers in an
entertaining format for a large
number of environmental
attorneys and other environmental
professionals. In addition to
providing the sustained excellence
for delivering CLE, the program
also benefits the environment
and environmental awareness
in a number of ways. In addition
to the technical information offered,
proceeds from the program help
fund multiple worthwhile projects.
Proceeds from the conference have
helped support the Environmental
and Natural Resources Law
Section’s law school programs,
including the summer law clerks/

22nd ANNUAL TEXAS ENVIRONMENTAL SUPERCONFERENCE
Held: August 5-6, 2010
Four Seasons Resort
Austin, Texas
The 22nd edition of the annual Texas Environmental Superconference, acknowledged by many as the most entertaining and informative of environmental conferences, was held on August 5-6, 2010 in Austin at the Four Seasons Hotel. This year’s conference, our 22nd, is entitled “Superconferencaustintexasexpialidocious” Our theme, of course, is Disney songs. Featured speakers on the federal level included: Principal Assistant Attorney General, ENRD, U.S. DOJ, Robert Dreher; EPA Deputy Regional Administrator Larry Starfield; EPA Regional Counsel Suzanne Murray; EPA Regional Director, Office of Environmental Justice and Tribal Affairs, Jeannine Hale. Featured speakers on the state level include TCEQ Chairman Bryan Shaw and State Representative Rafael Anchia. Other speakers include distinguished representatives from the private and public sectors.
Topics included: Environmental Case Law Update (“Bare Necessities”); Energy of the Future (“A Whole New World”); Air Quality (“Colors of the Wind”); View from DC (“So This is Love?”); Water (“Just Around The Riverbend”); Anatomy of a Superfund Site (“Dig a Little Deeper”); Climate Change (“When I See an Elephant Fly”); Distressed Assets (“Strange Things”); Conservation Easements and Mitigation Banks (“Feed the Birds”); Environmental Justice (“You’ve Got a Friend in Me”); Sunset Commission Update (“I’m Still Here”); Federal – State Relations (“Let’s Get Together”); State and Travis County Enforcement (“Never Smile at a Crocodile”); DOJ ENRD – Its Role, Its Priorities (“One Jump Ahead”), and Environmental Ethics (“I’ve Got No Strings”).
The Wednesday evening program focused on oil and gas, including A Technical Overview (“Some Day My Well Will Come”), A Legal Overview (“Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee—A Lawyer’s Life for Me”), Hydraulic Fracturing (“Whistle While You Work”), Air Quality (“A Patch of Heaven”), Biomonitoring (“Circle of Life”), and Legal Ramifications of the Deepwater Horizon Spill (“Under the Sea”).

Highlights from the 19th Annual Texas Environmental Superconference: An Oscar Winning Performance
Inspired by Academy Award Winning movies, this year's conference was entitled "An Oscar Winning Performance." There was plenty of excitement including a special appearance by Al Gore, tap dancing (literally) by a tuxedoed Jeff Civins, and a segwaying centurian.

Highlights from the 18th Annual Texas Environmental Superconference: The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades
The theme of the 18th Annual Environmental Superconference, held August 3-4, 2006, was - "The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades" - featured songs from the 80's. There was a surprise performance of the theme song by Pat MacDonald, lead singer and songwriter of Timbuk 3, the band that recorded this huge 80's hit. MacDonald opened by joking that while it was a great honor to be asked to perform, "It's also my greatest humiliation."

Highlights from the 17th Annual Texas Environmental Superconference: A Superconference
The 17th Annual Environmental Superconference, was held at the Austin Four Seasons on August 4-5, 2005. With this year's theme of Superheroes, there were surprise visits from The Incredibles , Wonder Woman (aka Ann Klee, General Counsel of EPA); The Thing (David Whitten), Superman (Superconference Chair Jeff Civins), Lois Lane (Mary Sahs), Batman (Mike Nasi) and his trusty sidekick Robin (Bob Chapin), and the Invisible Man. Attendees vied to correctly match the Superheroes with their alter egos and arch enemies, and to complete the Superheroes trivia quizzes.

Highlights from the 16th Annual Environmental Superconference
Over 500 people gathered at the 16th Annual Environmental Superconference, held in Austin on August 5-6, 2004. "Reality TV" was the theme of this year's Superconference. In addition to learning the latest in Texas Environmental law, attendees got to participate in the Superconference's own version of Reality TV.
