20th Annual Environmental Superconference Highlights

In an historic election year, the Environmental Superconference celebrated its 20th anniversary with an election theme. Check out the Superconference themes throughout the years. And to think it all started back in the 80's by assigning song titles to the topics.

The Superconference was held on August 7-8, 2008 in Austin, Texas, at the Four Seasons hotel. See Photo Gallery>>

Russ Baier keeps up the pace during the second day of the conference with a clue for the Skit Quiz. Which presidential slogan does he depict? Hint: He is carrying a big stick.

Interspersed with the skits and pop quizzes were distinguished speakers, including TCEQ Commissioner Bryan Shaw, Railroad Commission Chairman Michael Williams, Director Carl Bauer of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, and EPA's Chief of Enforcement Grant Nakayama and Director of Solid Waste Matt Hale. The Superconference again featured its own song, composed and performed by the talented Debra Baker.

In addition to the important standards like the environmental and administrative case law updates, Laura Fiffick discussed the strides that Dallas has toward sustainability ("Dallas found its Green") and Roberts Lewis and Barry McNeil provided nuts and bolts advice on how to handle internal investigations. Professors Tom McGarity and Victor Flatt engaged in a lively debate on a number of timely topics such as wind and nuclear energy.
