From Ann Barker, Baker Petrolite Corporation
Although I was older than Gregg, he always seemed like a mentor to me. He had such a wonderful way of helping people get along and get things done and never failed to offer a helping hand. Once on a business trip to Dallas, he suggested that the group meet at his favorite lunch spot, which turned out to be the restaurant at the Dallas Aquarium, where we shared a wonderful lunch and even better dessert. And true to form, he refused to conclude the meeting until after he led us on a walk through the rainforest. Sadly, we have truly lost a Texas treasure.
From Jean M. Flores, a colleague of Gregg's at Guida, Slavich & Flores, P.C.
My thoughts fall into two categories, general and personal:
General Thoughts About Gregg:
We’ve all heard about his talents as a lawyer, mediator, and administrator, but most importantly Gregg was an extraordinary person. His devotion to his family and his church were always on the surface of his dealings with friends, acquaintances, and opponents. He came into the office every day with a smile and an excitement about what would happen that day. His enthusiasm for even mundane tasks created enthusiasm in the people around him. Gregg laughed often and loudly, and his sense of humor just amplified his effectiveness in bringing people together.
Some Personal Reflections
Gregg joined Guida, Slavich & Flores 4 years ago. He immediately became a part of our “family,” enjoying office pranks more than anyone. I was lucky to be one of the people who worked most closely with Gregg during his short time here. To celebrate his first birthday as a member of the firm, we all wore mock Gregg Cooke mustaches in homage to his iconic look. On occasion when he could not locate me in the office, he would stand in the hall and yell: “Marco!” to which I would always reply “Polo!” if I could hear him. As everyone knows, Gregg was a technology addict and soon strong-armed everyone in the firm into obtaining TREOs. He also loved his Prius, and delighted in taking people for a ride during which he would continually exclaim: “The engine isn’t even running now!” He never stopped being excited about his personal contribution to cleaner air through driving his Prius. Gregg was a friend. I miss him.

Gregg was a wonderful boss – a really great guy – a total “10” and I will miss him so much.
