Featured speakers at the conference include Mayor Richard Greene, EPA Region 6 Regional Administrator, discussing challenges EPA faced in dealing with Hurricane Katrina, Texas Senator Todd Staples, discussing Biofuels, Roger Martella, EPA Principal Deputy General Counsel, discussing EPA Headquarters’ perspective, EPA Region 6 Deputy Regional Administrator Larry Starfield and TCEQ Commissioner Larry Soward participating in a panel discussion on hot issues, and a panel of three former TCEQ Commissioners (John Baker, Ralph Marquez, Robert Huston), looking back and looking forward.
Other prominent speakers include high level representatives from TCEQ and EPA, as well as representatives from local governments, the regulated community, and environmental groups. Topics include the old staples and some new ones as well, including solid waste, CERCLA, water and air quality, power plants, enforcement, in-house counsel forum, jury argument, proving up costs, and ethics. Environmental Law 102 will discuss fundamentals of various aspects of the practice of environmental law, including permitting , rulemaking, enforcement, cleanup programs, and transactions. Using the hypothetical of a new coal-fired power plant developed on an historic industrial property, the presenters will explain the nuts and bolts of these different aspects as they arise in the life cycle of the facility.
Co-sponsored by the State Bar of Texas Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section, the Air & Waste Management Association -Southwest Section, the Water Environment Association of Texas, the Texas Association of Environmental Professionals, The Auditing Roundtable, and the American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy and Resources, the conference routinely draws in excess of 500 attendees, from the public and private sector, legal, technical, and management.
