JULY 2004

Welcome to the first Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section's Enewsletter!
This newsletter will be a monthly publication informing you about the latest legal and regulatory developments, as well as the activities of our section and state and local bars. We hope that you will enjoy receiving it as one of your member benefits of the section.

As a member of the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section, we hope that you will be able to join us at the Section's 16th Annual Texas Environmental Superconference. This year's theme, in a nod to TV reality shows, is "Get Real!" We have attached a link to the PDF* version of the program, which can be opened with Adobe Acrobat. You may register by mail or on-line at: www.texenrls.org/superconference.html. You also should be receiving the program in the mail.

Topics include:

  • Water Resources ("Croc Hunter Challenge")
  • Water Quality ("Love Cruise")
  • Professional Licensing ("the Apprentice")
  • Enforcement ("Fear Factor")
  • Natural Resource Damages ("Eco Challenge")
  • Agency Data ("Big Brother")
  • Pipeline Regulation ("The Weakest Link")
  • and HB4 Tort Reform ("House Rules").

In addition, there will be two hypotheticals involving contaminated property: one involving a contract dispute ("Trading Spaces"), and the other, toxic tort litigation ("Scare Tactics.")

Highlights include:

  • Air quality ("Under One Roof"), featuring TCEQ Commissioner, Ralph Marquez
  • Land Revitalization ("Extreme Makeover"), featuring State Representative Dennis Bonnen
  • Alternative Energy ("The Simple Life"), featuring Railroad Commission Chairman, Victor Carillo.

Another highlight is a discussion on issues of federalism by Larry Starfield, Deputy Regional Administrator of EPA Region 6, and Larry Soward, TCEQ Commissioner. As always, the program includes an
open mike question and answer session with high level representatives from TCEQ and EPA.

This year, as a special added attraction, the Thursday evening reception will be held in honor of an attendee, Ms. Ann Klee, the newly appointed
Assistant Administrator/General Counsel of EPA.

We look forward to seeing you there.
